Alleged ‘Twilight’ hacker may face charges in U.S., Argentina
Vampire movies are scary. Lawyers for companies that make vampire movies are downright frightening. Just ask Daiana Santia, the Argentine computer hacker who allegedly leaked production photos and video from the upcoming “Twilight” movie.
Summit Entertainment announced Monday (Aug. 1) that it’s suing Santia and filing criminal charges against the Argentinian for allegedly stealing images and footage of the upcoming film, “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1.” A series of low-quality stills and a 14-second clip from the film hit the Internet earlier this year.
In the photos, Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) were apparently on their honeymoon, causing many “Twilight” fans glee, although those on Team Jacob were probably more than a little disappointed. Summit, well, they were downright depressed.
“[We're] extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage,” Summit said at the time.
That tone became much more litigious in recent days now that Summit believes they’ve located at least one of the perpetrators.
David C. Friedman, Summit’s executive vice president and general counsel, says in a statement, “In an action that further communicates that those who steal images,
video and other intellectual property will be identified and prosecuted
globally, Summit Entertainment communicated today that it has identified
the principal hacker who earlier this year stole unreleased materials
from ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ which were then distributed on the Internet.
“It is believed that others may also be involved in the crime
and thus the investigation is on-going,” Friedman adds.
